CarterGore X Wolf & Badger
I guess we always knew that we were going to make the move towards Retail at some point in the first couple of years of CarterGore. Our products are so inherently tactile, so detailed, that it’s actually kinda hard to capture them in all their glory over the web. The reaction we’ve had at the shows we’ve done this year has taught us that.
And with that box to tick – get the hell into Retail – we had a wish list of brands and stores we’d love to see ourselves in. Selfridges. Liberty. You know the ones. And right at the top of that list … Wolf & Badger.
There’s something a little different about those guys. Founded in 2010 by brother duo Henry and George Graham, Wolf & Badger was precisely engineered to form a new path to retail for independent makers. Priding themselves as the home-land of the best and brightest of Britain, their first store is Notting Hill was split into 70 units, which were then rented out to a carefully curated, hand-picked selection of designers.
On both sides of the coin, a highstreet-jaded customer base was treated to the hottest newness on the market under one roof, and the designers spring-boarded off the rampantly building reputation of Wolf & Badger. Within two months of opening, Vogue named Wolf & Badger one of Britain’s Best Boutiques. And the accolades kept on coming.
The Graham brothers had cracked it. It was a new and exciting consumer formula – a collective of creatives with a shop-front. A different model. Something fresh.
And they’ve been perpetuating that success ever since.
A good few years on, the selection process for new brands is still as pedantic and particular. George still vets every single designer through a round of applications – 1 in 10, he reckons, actually make it to join the Wolf & Badger family.
“We pick brands based on their merits rather than their reputation or reach. Some brands are big, some are small but what they all have in common is that they’re very much design led and innovative in their approach. We try to find designers that are genuinely doing something within their collection that is a little bit different.”
And we couldn’t be more chuffed to announce that CarterGore – oh, yeah, little old us – has made it through that selection process and will be stocked at Wolf & Badger.
Stay tuned across our social media for more updates – they’ll be coming mighty soon!
